How Wholesale Hose Pricing Works — And How to Get the Best Rate
How Wholesale Hose Pricing Works — And How to Get the Best Rate
Ask a trade buyer what they want from a hose supplier and “best price”
comes out first, every time. Fair enough. But the price on a length of hose is not one number
somebody picks – it is the output of half a dozen decisions about compound, reinforcement, bore,
format and volume, and most of those decisions sit on your side of the desk, not ours.
This is a plain look at how wholesale hose pricing is actually built, where trade
buyers quietly lose money without it ever showing on a unit price comparison, and the levers that
genuinely move what an order costs you by the time it is on your shelf.

What You Are Actually Paying For
Six things set the rate on any given line. Understanding which of them your
application really needs is worth more than any amount of haggling:
Compound
Silicone, rubber, PVC and PTFE are not interchangeable on price and never will be. PTFE and specialist fuel/oil compounds sit at the top; general-purpose PVC sits at the bottom. Specifying a compound the duty does not need is the most expensive habit in trade buying, and the easiest one to fix.
Reinforcement
An unreinforced tube, a textile-braided hose and a wire-helix hose are three different products at three different prices. Reinforcement buys you working pressure and crush resistance. If the line is a gravity drain, you are paying for neither.
Bore and wall
Price climbs with material volume, so bore and wall thickness move it together. A jump from 13 mm to 19 mm bore is not a small increment — it is meaningfully more rubber per metre, every metre.
Format
Continuous hose is sold by the coil and mouldings by the piece. The coil is the wholesale unit; anything cut, assembled or fitted has handling in it. Buying in the format the product is made in is where the rate is best.
Volume
The single biggest variable you control. Deep, repeat purchasing on a few lines is a very different proposition to one-off buying across forty, and it is worth putting to the team rather than assuming.
Branding and bespoke
Own-brand print and made-to-drawing hose carry a manufacturing cost that a catalogue line does not. It is quoted per job against your spec, volume and artwork — not marked up off a list price.
The cheapest unit price and the cheapest landed cost are rarely the same number — and it is landed cost that shows up in your margin.
Where Trade Buyers Overpay
In our experience almost none of the money a trade buyer loses on hose is lost at
the point of quoting. It leaks out afterwards, in four fairly ordinary habits:
Splitting the week into three orders
Every separate order is another lot of carriage, another goods-in booking, another invoice to receipt and another PO to raise. Three deliveries in a fortnight cost real money that never appears on any unit price you compare.
Buying cut lengths to sell whole coils
If your customers buy metres and you buy metres, you are paying somebody else to break the coil. Buy the coil, cut it yourself, and the handling margin stays with you — on most continuous lines that is the largest single saving available.
Emergency retail buying
The 4 pm dash to a local factor for one length is not a purchase, it is a penalty. It is almost always the worst rate you will pay all month, and it usually happens because a reorder point was never set.
Specification sprawl
Forty near-identical lines bought shallow will always price worse than fifteen bought deep. Most trade stock lists have duplicates in them that nobody has audited in years — different bores, same job.
The second one is worth dwelling on. Continuous hose is manufactured and
warehoused in coils, and the coil is the unit the wholesale rate is built around. Every time
somebody breaks one for you, the handling is priced in – so if you have a bench, a blade and a
customer who buys by the metre, the whole coil is almost always the better buy. It is the single
easiest change most counters can make.
The coil is the wholesale unit. Every time somebody else breaks it for you, the handling is priced in — on continuous lines that is usually the largest saving on the table.
How Hoses UK Prices Are Structured
No mystery and no negotiation stage to get through. The commercial facts you need
in order to price a job, in one place:
Price visibility
Wholesale prices are published against the product on the site. There is no login wall, no application and no quote request standing between you and the rate — choose the bore and length and the price is there.
Buying unit
Continuous hose is priced and supplied by the coil (rubber air line, for example, runs in 60 m coils); mouldings, couplings and clamps are priced per piece.
Minimum order
£500 per order, excluding VAT — across the catalogue, not per line.
Payment
Pro-forma on every order, settled before dispatch. No credit checks, no application to submit and no approval stage between the order and the picking list.
New trade customers
£25 off your first order.
Large volumes & own-brand
Quoted by the team against your spec, volume and artwork. Bespoke hose needs a technical drawing with bore, wall, length, temperature and pressure duty.
Delivery
Express next-day delivery on stocked lines, or same-day collection from our Mirfield (West Yorkshire) warehouse.
Getting the Best Rate – Step by Step
You will get further with an afternoon spent on your own purchase history than
with any phone call. This is the exercise we would run:
1
Pull twelve months of lines
Export what you actually bought, not what you think you buy. Sort by total spend and stop at the top twenty. That short list is where every pound of saving lives.
2
Kill the duplicates
Go down it and mark anything doing the same job as the line above. Consolidating two half-depth specs into one full-depth one improves the rate and halves the stockholding.
3
Set reorder points
For each survivor, work out how much you sell in a working day and order when you hit cover, not when the shelf looks empty. This is what ends emergency buying for good.
4
Batch it into one order
Group the whole list into a single order over the £500 minimum rather than three part-orders. One carriage, one invoice, one booking-in, one lot of admin.
5
Get the big items quoted
Anything you buy in real depth, or want carrying your own branding, is worth a conversation rather than a click. Send the spec, the volume and the artwork and get a quote against it.
Why Pro-Forma Makes the Number Sharper
Hoses UK is pro-forma only. Every order is settled before it is dispatched: no
credit accounts, no 30-day terms, no application and no credit check. Buyers occasionally read that
as a restriction, so it is worth explaining what it buys you.
A distributor running a credit book carries the cost of it — credit control,
chasing, insurance, and a provision for the customers who never pay. That cost does not disappear;
it is spread across the price list, which means the buyers who settle on time are subsidising the
ones who do not. Taking it out of the model puts the saving into two places that matter far more to
a trade customer: the rate on the page, and the depth of stock sitting on the shelf at Mirfield
ready to go out tomorrow.
It also takes a variable out of your own planning. There is no account approval
sitting between an urgent order and a picking list – the order is paid and it is picked. For
anyone running tight on cover, that predictability is worth more than terms.
Price Up Your Next Order
Wholesale rates are on the page — no login, no quote request. Open a trade account, take £25 off your first order, and talk to the team about depth and own-brand work.
Do I need a trade account to see your wholesale prices?
No. Hoses UK publishes wholesale prices openly on the product pages — pick the bore and length and the rate is on screen, with no login wall, application or quote request in the way. You will need an account to place the order, and the minimum order is £500 excluding VAT, with £25 off for new trade customers. If it helps, browse the wholesale catalogue first and price the job up before you register.
Do you offer credit accounts or 30-day terms?
No, and this is deliberate rather than a stage you work up to. Every Hoses UK order is pro-forma — settled before dispatch. There are no credit checks, no application to wait on and no approval that can hold up a despatch. Running without a debtor book, credit control or bad-debt provision is precisely what funds sharper pricing and deeper stockholding, which is where a trade buyer actually gets paid.
Can I get a better rate on large volumes or own-brand hose?
Put it to the team rather than guessing. Genuine depth on a line, and anything made to your own specification or carrying your branding, is quoted per job against the spec, the volume and the artwork. Bespoke work needs a technical drawing with bore, wall, length, and the temperature and pressure duty. The more complete the brief, the faster and sharper the quote.
What is the cheapest way to buy if I only need a small quantity?
Buy across the catalogue rather than down one line. The £500 minimum applies to the order, not the item, so the sensible move is to batch a month of consumables – hose, ducting, couplings and clamps together – into one delivery rather than drip-feeding small orders. On continuous lines, take the full coil from the core hose range and cut it yourself: the per-metre rate is better and the handling margin stays in your business.
